How to Make Life Easier
I hope you are patting yourself on the back and breathing a sigh of relief that your child has adjusted to school, has at least a couple classes/teachers they like, and friends to sit with in the cafeteria. Your efforts to ensure a successful start were worth it!
I’m concerned because so many of the parents I’ve spoken with recently believe that the promised joys of parenting are being whittled away. The strain of having to much to do and insufficient time can be discouraging. Do you feel the same way, too?
I asked these moms and dads what unique factor helped them hold it together. Here is what they said to please share
Personal decisions
- Not open or send work emails after 5PM.
- Turn off all notifications except texts and actual phone calls.
- Stop viewing and listening to the news except for a daily recap.
- Handle things once – respond to emails, texts, and letters instantly.
- Monitor and reduce time spent on your phone.
- Keep vaccinations up to date – I know you have you own opinions on this.
- Say no to activities that will sabotage your time.
- A half hour before bedtime, turn off all of your devices
- Purchase things when they are sale and get all you need in one go.
Actionable items
- Asking for help – it’s a strength, and family and friends like assisting.
- Keeping the calm going at your house – it’s a contagious superpower.
- Accepting your emotions – deal with them one at a time.
- Making time and space to be with your tween and significant other.
We know that creating a simpler daily life reduces stress and increases joy. Which ones will you do to maximize your happiness? You’ve got this.
I believe in you!
